Dr Ron Murray

Independent CPD/CME Professional, UK

Formerly the Associate Director of Continuing Medical Education (CME) at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Ron Murray provided oversight and direction for the office's CME Affiliate and Outreach Services (AOS) programme - a joint provider enterprise for 32 affiliates representing community hospitals and other healthcare organisations at local, state and national levels. In semi-retirement, Ron continues to be involved in CME/Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as an independent consultant, advisory panel member, journal editorial board member and writer. He has also managed international educational initiatives serving healthcare providers in the Middle East, in Oman, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai and Lebanon. His volunteer work has included conducting more than 100 accreditation surveys on behalf of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), as well as committee work for Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEhP) and Global Alliance for Medical Education (GAME). Ron has organised and presented at a range of educational meetings and webinars in US, Canada and Europe and published in the relevant literature. Ron received a doctorate in Health Education from the University of Virginia, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of London and a BSc Hons in Applied Microbiology from the University of Strathclyde. He received the Fellowship Award from ACEhP in 2013, the Alliance’s President’s award in 2011, the Distinguished Member award in 2007 and the ACCME’s Robert Raszkowski MD, PhD Hero Award in 2009. He enjoys his ‘retirement’ status at the edge of the North York Moors, UK where he continues his lifelong passion for Robert Burns and Rugby Union.
